Why is radon a big deal, and what should I do about it?

The dangers

Radon is the number one cause of lung cancer among non-smokers, according to EPA estimates. Overall, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer. Radon is responsible for about 21,000 lung cancer deaths every year. About 2,900 of these deaths occur among people who have never smoked.

Get your home tested

Johnson Inspection Services LLC offers a low-cost, non-biased radon screening test for your home, or for a home you are planning to purchase.  Paired with a home inspection, a radon screening is $120.  Without a home inspection, the screening is $160.

The process

The radon screening process takes a minimum of 48 hours. It also must be performed with the home functioning under normal operating conditions (the way you normally live).  The screening equipment must not be disturbed during the process, or the results will be nullified.
